As you know, from 6 to 16 March 2021, the diocesan inquiry into the alleged miracle attributed to the intercession of Blessed Giuseppe Allamano took place in Brazil, in the Diocese of Roraima. It was about the healing of Sorino Yanomami from a very serious head injury due to the attack of a jaguar near the mission of Catrimani (Roraima), which took place on February 7, 1995.
The acts of the diocesan inquiry were delivered by the Postulation team to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, in Rome, on April 7, 2021, so that the Congregation could examine its contents and pronounce about the validity of the inquiry. On 23 June 2021, the liturgical memory of St Joseph Cafasso, we went together to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints for an appointment with Cardinal Semeraro, Prefect of the Dicastery, to have an insight into the process. On that occasion, the Cardinal informed us that the meeting at which the special Commission of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints had examined and considered the validity of the acts of the inquiry had just ended! We do not know how to express the joy and emotion that caught us, in receiving the splendid news precisely on the Memory Day of St Joseph Cafasso, the “uncle”, and in realizing that on that very day Providence had arranged for the meeting of the Commission to take place and examine the acts of the inquiry! On this occasion we have seen the benevolent intervention of the Cafasso, for whose cause of canonization the Founder had done so much. The Secretary of the Congregation told us that the documentation prepared by the Postulation team was very accurate, well elaborated and presented, so there had been no difficulty in ascertaining the validity of the acts of the inquiry. We thank the team of the Postulation: Fr. Giacomo Mazzotti, Sr. Renata Conti and Fr. Michelangelo Piovano for the commitment, dedication, precision and competence with which they carried out the investigation and prepared the documentation!
Here is the English translation of the text of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints’ Decree that certifies the validity of the investigation, a document issued to us only a few days ago by the Congregation itself:
“In the Ordinary Congress held on June 23, 2021, this Congregation for the Causes of Saints discussed the following question: “Whether it appears valid the diocesan Inquiry carried out at the Ecclesiastical Curia of Roraima on the considered miraculous healing of Mr. Sorino Yanomami, obtained through the intercession of Blessed Giuseppe Allamano, Priest, Founder of the Consolata Missionary Institute: whether the witnesses have been duly and adequately examined and the attached evidence have been legitimately acquired, on the case and for the purpose in question”. This Congregation, having taken into consideration the written opinion of those who had been in charge of it, and carefully evaluated the question, replied AFFIRMATIVELY, that is, that appears valid the aforementioned diocesan Inquiry, on the case and for the purpose in question, since what is according to the law was respected. Despite anything to the contrary».
The declaration of the validity of the inquiry DOES NOT MEAN THE APPROVAL OF THE MIRACLE, but it means the possibility of continuing the process for the recognition of the same, for the canonization. The next step in the process will be the elaboration of the Positio SUPER MIRO which aims to demonstrate the “alleged miracle” through the collection and orderly composition of the documentation and testimonies of the Diocesan Process in Roraima. All this will then be submitted for the approval of the various Commissions of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints and, in the event of a positive result, to that of the Pope. Obviously, it is not possible for us to predict the time that will be needed for these steps.
We encourage each and every one to pray and ask God for the gift of the canonization of our Father!
May St Joseph Cafasso intercede this grace for us!
In communion,
